    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates my ability to review articles and integrate them into a sophisticated literature review at the graduate level. 

  2. Item Two: Know the Law—Confidentiality, Mandated Reporting, and Duty to Warn Review Paper, CNS 780: Professional, Ethical, and Legal Issues in Counseling

    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates my ability to research and analyze laws and guidelines related to my field of practice. 

  3. Item Three: Case Study Review Paper, CNS 770: Classification of Mental Disorders

    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates my ability to synthesize detailed information and concepts and apply them to real world scenarios. 

Program Objective Two

Program Objective 2: Value professional diligence and life-long learning.

  1. Item One: Assignment 6.1: Research Project, CNS 736: Appraisal Procedures for Counselors (see below)

    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates my ability to research and analyze existing testing methods to determine efficacy and implications for client populations.  

  2. Item Two: Assignment 6.1: Law and Advocacy, CNS 780 - Professional, Ethical, and Legal Issues in Counseling

    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates my ability to research and synthesize applicable laws, guidelines, and statutes in the field of counseling.   

  3. Item Three: Skills Assessment Paper, CNS 739-DG Advanced Counseling Skills & Crisis Management

    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates that I am self-aware of my skills and limitations and am capable of recognizing areas in which I can continue to improve and grow.

Program Objective 3: Excel as community leaders, advocates, and practitioners.

  1. Item One: Review paper of interview with a Clinical Mental Health Counselor, CNS 771: Clinical Mental Health Counseling

    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates my ability to connect and learn from those already practicing in the field.

  2. Item Two: Assignment 7.1: Special Topics Paper, CNS 762: Case Formulation and Treatment Planning in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates my commitment and drive for law and advocacy in the field of counseling. 

  3. Item Three: Assignment 7.1: Culturally Competent SOAP Note and Literature Review, CNS 747: Cultures and Counseling

    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates my ability as a practitioner to stay mindful of my own multicultural competency and in the practice of counseling as a whole in regards to the potential impact on my client population.

Program Objective 4: Possess a deep awareness of themselves and of their impact on others.

  1. Item One: Personal-Cultural Analysis and Identity Development Paper, CNS 747: Cultures and Counseling

    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates my personal awareness of my own cultural history, upbringing, and impact on my future career. 

  2. Item Two: Cultural reflection paper, CNS 740: Professional Orientation to Counseling

    1. Rationale: This project highlights my interest in and commitment to knowledge and advocacy regarding key figures practicing cultural competency while also struggling with mental health. 

  3. Item Three: Assignment 4.1: Administer the Self-Directed Search, CNS 736: Appraisal Procedures for Counselors

    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates my ability to maintain professionalism and curtail bias in the administration of my duties as a counselor.   

Program Objective Five

Program Objective 5: Commit to the compassionate service of humanity and foster the well-being of people at the local, state, national, and international level.

  1. Item One: Research Paper and Literature Review - CNS 765: Addictions Counseling

    1. Rationale: This project reflects my dedication to learning and aiding in the impact of community issues such as substance use epidemics and their implications to the counseling community. 

  2. Item Two: Group Plan Proposal, CNS 742-IG Group Procedures in Counseling

    1. Rationale:  This project demonstrates my counseling advocacy and skills, and highlights my ability to think proactively and consider the needs of my community.  

  3. Item Three: Skills Assessment and Review Paper, CNS – 739 DG Advanced Counseling Skills & Crisis Management

    1. Rationale: This project demonstrates my ability to synthesize and practically apply the knowledge and skills gained in my counseling courses, as well as review and critique the effectiveness of my responses.
